Well, hello there.

Well, hello there.

I’m a busy woman. I have a very fulfilling but also very draining job as a public defender, a wonderful husband, and two children who can tend to be picky eaters. And like a lot of people these days, I eat a ketogenic diet. Problem is, the rest my family doesn’t, so I have to spend a lot of time and energy balancing all of this and making sure that everyone I love gets exactly what they need. It’s exhausting!

I started this site because I know I can’t be the only one in this situation, trying to juggle too many things at once and for the most part, feeling like I’m failing miserably. When I see a recipe I like, I don’t want to read someone’s life story about how eating this reminds them of visiting their grandmother’s house in Duluth. This is why I’ll always have a Jump to Recipe button on my posts–I know you’re busy and you want to get to the reason why you’re here. In my write-ups, I’ll often put more details, tips and tricks, and modifications if you want to make a recipe more suitable for non-keto folks. But I’m not going to hold you hostage as you scroll past 17 pictures, 25 ads, and 6 paragraphs with me waxing rhapsodic about how this reminds me of my idyllic childhood. We all have better things to do with our time.

I’m also not going to have the world’s best photography on here. Thing is, when I make food, I don’t make it to take pictures of it. I make it to eat it. You’re not going to see my food nestled beautifully in an immaculate enameled cast-iron skillet, because I don’t have one of those. Well, I have one, but it’s not immaculate, because I cook in it. All my pictures are taken with an iPhone. And other than maybe picking which angle to shoot it from, I’m not going to do much in the way of staging the food to take a picture of it. The longer I spend doing photography, the longer it takes me to actually eat my dinner. And nobody wants to have their food get cold because they want it to look perfect. I’m not an Instagram model, I’m a 41-year-old mom who just wants to eat and get back to playing video games or doing cross-stitch or playing with my kids for a bit.

The name Cluttered Kitchen Keto came from the idea that just because you’re a normal person with a normal life doesn’t mean that you can’t make great food. I make great food all the time, but I do it around piles of stuff I haven’t put away yet, a disorganized pantry, a fridge that constantly needs to be cleaned out and rarely actually is. Every drawer and cabinet in my kitchen is full. There’s no space for anything, but somehow I manage to succeed in making stuff that people actually enjoy eating. I’m here to share that with you, and show you that you can do it too.
